Nutrition Month Celebration 2025 at Barangay Rizal, Sogod Southern Leyte

The Rural Health Unit of Sogod led by Dr. Marc Florendo B. Mato together with Dr. Mejurette Mosot, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Mrs. Sheryl A. Lura-Health Education and Promotion Officer and Mrs. Ritzchel G. Olo, Program coordinator for Nutrition with the full support of Mayor Sheffered Lino S. Tan and Mrs. Imelda U. Tan, represenatives from Sangguniang Bayan, DSWD, MASO, DEP-ED, DOH, Sogod Bay Interlocal Health Zone Cooperative and private sectors, recently celebrated the 51st Nutrition Month on July 29, 2025, at the Barangay Gymnasium of Rizal, Sogod, Southern Leyte. The activity aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of good nutrition and recognize initiatives that support local food security.

These are the highlights of the event:

1. A lecture by our esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Gladys L.Pascual, Campus Director of Southern Leyte State Universty, Bontoc Campus(SLSU-Bontoc) on the importance of food security for sustainability of good nutrition practices and the initiatives of SLSU-Bontoc Campus for this program emphasizing the different programs offered by the university and initiating possible collaboration with the community.

2. Recognition of the 5 identified Best Implementers of HAPAG (Halina't Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay) in Sogod Southern Leyte. Among the awardees were Baranggay Rizal, San Jose, Milagroso, San Roque and Consolacion.

3. Launching of the 120 Days food Supplementation Program to Malnourished Children.

4. Dental Services to Malnourished children including a lecture on oral health by Dr. Jan Venice Ligtas and provision of dental kits by the Philippine Dental Association-Southern Leyte Chapter.

The event gathered Punong Barangays and Barangay Health/Agriculture Committees from all 45 barangays of Sogod and the families of the recipients of the feeding program.
